Fashion in 1960

The sixties, which are considered the “craziest” decade, have become such in fashion, in which designers experimented not only with form, but with materials. However, the leitmotif of the decade is the youth revolt against the consumer society and politics of their countries, which led to the formation of one of the most massive subcultures - hippies.
Back in 1934, long-sleeved leotards were created, and designer Claire McCardell proposed to consider this model under the name “leotard” as the basis of the image. Three decades later, along with tights, girls were invited to have a skirt, trousers, a jacket and a top in the wardrobe. Both tops and tights at the time began to be sewn from the same material - elastic silk and lycra. This fabric was stretched in all directions, and due to practicality soon almost everything began to be sewn from it - both evening dresses and tracksuits.
As happened before, the mood of young people was also caught by designers who immediately began to create appropriate models “retro”, but this did not find a response among teenagers - after all, the meaning of their passion for antiquity was largely in the riot against the consumer society.
The Flower Children chose ethnic-inspired clothing that could be combined with a poncho from South America or with an Eskimo headdress. All this diversity was complemented by an abundance of jewelry brought mainly from India.
